Offices that are responsible for handling the legal affairs of an organization. Tasks generally include drafting and reviewing legal documents, serving as legal advisors regarding the organization’s business interests and/or services, providing legal representation in actions involving the organization, ensuring that the organization is covered in terms of liability, filing patent or copyright papers with official agencies (where applicable), offering technical information about their area of expertise (e.g., insurance matters, taxation) to people served by the organization, handling customer complaints and providing support for other departments (e.g., an opinion regarding discriminatory hiring practices for a department of human resources).
